THE COURSE WILL FOCUS ON THE ASSESSMENT OF THE MOTHER AND CHILD(REN) SPECIFICALLY FOCUSED ON OBSTACLES ASSOCIATED WITH BREASTFEEDING ANDF BOTTLEFEEDING IN THE NEWBORN AND INFANT. DETAILED INFORMATION WILL BE PROVIDED TO BETTER UNDERSTAND MATERNAL ISSUES ASSOCIATED WITH CONCEPTION, BIRTH AND POST PARTUM THAT MAY IMPACT NURSING. DETAILED INFORMATION WILL BE PROVIDED TO BETTER UNDERSTAND NEWBORN ISSUES RELATED TO BIRTH HISTORY, STRUCTURAL ANOMALIES, ORAL ASSESSMENT AND DIAGNOSIS OF RESTRICTED LINGUAL AND LABIAL FRENULUM. SURGICAL AND NON-SURGICAL APPROACHES WILL BE DISCUSSED IN THE TREATMENT OF THESE INFANTS. CASE PRESENTATIONS OF INFANTS, TODDLERS AND SCHOOL AGED CHILDREN WILL ALSO BE INCLUDED WITH SPECIFIC FEEDING, SPEECH AND OTHER ASSOCIATED ISSUES.

Explain the mechanism of proper nursing in a newborn and obstacles that can impact this function
Review the principles in assessment of the nursing mother and infant that present with nursing/feeding challenges
Assess and provide treatment for restrictive lingual and/or labial frenula in the infant and toddler using a dental laser including proper post operative guidance and management.
