Dr. Shirley is a pediatric dentist with the Center for Craniofacial Disorders at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. He has a hospital-based practice treating children with complex medical conditions and is also in private practice. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University and a Consultant to the Navy Postgraduate Dental School in Bethesda, Maryland.
He received his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center and practiced general dentistry in the US Navy on active duty for three years. He then completed a 3-year residency program in pediatric dentistry at University of Alabama- Birmingham /Children’s Hospital of Alabama and received a Masters of Science degree.
Dr. Shirley is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Board of Special Care Dentistry. He was selected for membership in the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in Special Needs Dentistry. He is a past president of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and Georgia Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. He serves as a Consultant for the Commission on Dental Accreditation and the Georgia Board of Dentistry.
He remains involved in the Navy Reserves and was recalled to active duty for 9 months in 2017 to serve as the Command Surgeon for U.S Marine Forces Europe and Africa in Germany and is currently on active duty serving at the Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery in the Washington, DC area.
