Professor Emeritus of Pediatric Dentistry
University of Kentucky College of Dentistry
Jerusalem, Israel
I graduated as Cirujano Dentista, at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. Completed a fellowship on Pediatric Dentistry at the Faculty of Dentistry - Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem. Specialty on Pediatric Dentistry by the Ministry of Health of the State of Israel. My academic career has occurred in multiple Universities, which included the clinical practice of Pediatric Dentistry, and translational research focused on oral health and infections in pediatric patients. A somewhat unique feature of my clinical and translational research efforts that has led to >120 manuscripts published in referred journals and book chapters has been an emphasis on gingival and periodontal disease in children and adolescents, in contrast to the majority of pediatric dentistry studies in either dental caries or developmental biology. This expertise resulted in my role at the Editor-in-Chief of the book “Periodontal and Gingival Health and Diseases. Children Adolescents and Young Adults” (Martin Dunitz Ltd, London United Kingdom). I have spent research and teaching sabbaticals at several universities in the United States (San Francisco; San Antonio; Boston; Baltimore; Gainesville), and internationally (Dunedin, New Zealand; London, Ontario). These experiences have emphasized the importance of collaborative interdisciplinary research projects to effectively address the health issues of the population. Actually I am the Chief of the Division of Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry.
