Dr. Michael Virts is a lifelong resident of Frederick County, MD. He lives in Middletown with his wife, Kristen, and two young sons, Jackson and Ryan. Spending time with his family- whether at the beach, fishing, playing music, or simply enjoying time at home- brings the most joy to his life.
As a father to his two young sons, Dr. Virts has a special appreciation of the bond between mother and baby. He understands that when a newborn is unable to nurse properly, the entire family is affected. To that end, Dr. Virts offers laser lip and tongue revision for babies to help bring comfort to the nursing experience. A member of the International Affiliation of Tongue-Tie Professionals, Dr. Virts is one of only a few Maryland dentists to be recognized as a “Preferred Provider” for this unique service. In addition, Dr. Virts regularly lectures to other dental and medical providers regarding infant tongue and lip tie laser revision.
Dr. Virts spent his undergraduate years at Washington College on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. He then earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, and his Specialty Certificate In Pediatric Dentistry from the University of Maryland Medical Center. Following completion of his residency training, Dr. Virts became recognized as a Board Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. He is also an Associate Member of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Dr. Virts remains active in the dental profession outside of the office. He is a Past President of the Maryland Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and volunteers as a Dean’s Faculty member at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, where he is also a member of the Board of Visitors. In addition to participation in the local, state, and national components of the American Dental Association, Dr. Virts is a member of the American Society for Dental Ethics. Locally, he volunteers with the Johns Hopkins Craniofacial Clinic in Hagerstown, providing consulting services for children with cleft lip and/or palate. Internationally, Dr. Virts has volunteered in the Tula region of Russia to provide dental care for the students and families of Zaoksky Village, about two hours north of Moscow.
