This presentation draws from the literature in psychology to describe various parenting styles, along with the outcomes on psychosocial function and behavioral control. Publications for the mass market are summarized to describe the generational differences that provide the context for changes in parenting. Finally, parenting systems described in mass market publications are also described, with applications to behavior guidance proposed for the dental setting.
