The course will focus on various acquired and developmental anomalies of first permanent molars, especially focusing on Molar-Incisor Hypomineralization/Hypoplasia and Amelogenesis Imperfecta. A review of causative factors leading to MIH will be reviewed and differential diagnosis options will be discussed. Treatment options for moderate to severely effected MIH teeth will be discussed to include conservative resin based restorative material, but mainly on more definitive prefabricated zirconia first permanent molar crowns. Basic preparation and treatment planning steps will be reviewed. Multiple cases with short- and long-term follow-up are documented and summarized.
Learning Objectives:
recognize different developmental anomalies that impact permanent first molars and restorative options for these teeth
Describe various drug regimens, cocktails, metabolism and drug interactions in conscious sedation
recognize cases that may warrant advanced alternative restorative techniques with Zirconia crowns and discuss these cases
